Synopsis
The Stolen Children is a heartbreaking neo-realistic fable in the tradition of De Sica's Bicycle Thieves - It tells the story of the friendship that develops betwen two neglected children and the young police officer who escorts them to a home for problem children. Compassionate but never maudlin, Amelio's film presents a picture of a Third World Italy that makes all too clear the children's destiny and the officer's inability to change it.
