Synopsis
Clair's first film exlpoits stop-motion cinematography in a comedy abot a night watchman on the Eiffel Tower who wakes one morning to find the city of Paris asleep below. howevr, it is the process of filmmaking that is the true subject of this film, and the basic elements of cinema - time and movement - are its chief characters. Clair makes evident his fascination with abstract forms of machinery, by gliding the camera around the steel curves and fretwork of the Eiffel Tower, exploring it frome every angle.
