Film Conservation

This two-program series addresses through screenings and discussion, one of the most pressing issues regarding film preservation, that is the disposal of small format, amateur films which contain enormous information about our cultural heritage. Many people have incorrectly assumed that most old film stock is flammable or explosive, and in turn discard footage containing historically valuable views of our past. As the first person journal or diary has become credible as a source of historic record, so, too, have home movies come to be valued as a supplement to the moving image record.
