Synopsis
Many adaptations of the great Chekhov play followed the relase of this film, but this is stilll regarded by many as the best. In their survey of East European Cinema, Mira and Antonin Liehm cited, "The sorrow, the nostalgia and the hopelessness of the Russian intelligentsia had found a true poet."
